Its 1am early on a Sat. morning. After 7 straight hours of baking we inspect
our products:
- 4 dozen banana muffins
- 15 dozen cookies (chocolate chip, mint chocolate chip,
monster cookies and oreo inside a chocolate chip cookie)
- Trays of rice crispy treats, banana bread and brownies
- Pre-made cookie mixes
- Peanut Butter Cup Marshmallows
- Brownie and Cream Cheese Frosting in a Jar
- Peach and Blueberry Crumble
That’s right… we had quite the menu for our bake sale at The
Lowcountry Artist Market. I love to bake
but have never tried to sell my bake goods on a large scale before. So when my
baking partner Meg brought up the idea I jumped at the chance. The Lowcountry Artist Market happens 4 times
a year and is actually where I met Meg. She was selling her jewelry and I commissioned
her to make some for our wedding. This
year, because many of the jewelry booths were so similar, Meg decided to mix things
up and sell baked goods as well.
We had grand ideas for our first ever sale. We chose 4 different types of cookies along
with a mixture of bars, muffins and fun jar options. Blaring oldies, we baked for hours, even when
our legs were tired and our eyes heavy.
And the hard work paid off!
We had a wonderful time at the sale. Family and friends came by to cheer us on and
we sold over half of our stock, leaving enough leftover to donate to our
neighborhood fire station. Of course
Hazel upstairs got some goodies too. We
found out that people love Rice Crispy Treats and don’t want healthy options
like banana muffins and blueberry/peach crumble. It was so much fun to finally
expand my hobby for others to enjoy and to do it with my good friend Meg. All in all it was a great success and we can’t
wait for the Christmas sale!
